Nightfall

Mara Reyes works the late shift at Nightfall, the most exclusive club in a city that never sees the family who really owns it. Then one last call she clears the wrong lounge, sees the wrong thing, and learns the beautiful people upstairs are something with teeth. She should be dead by dawn. Instead a stranger claims her in front of the whole dynasty, and Mara is dragged into a night-world that suddenly cannot decide whether to bleed her or protect her. Caught between Rook, the outlaw who wants to burn the whole thing down and needs her to do it, and Ren, the family's cold enforcer who was sent to make her disappear and keeps her breathing instead, Mara starts to understand there is something in her blood the dynasty is terrified of. The city runs on a secret. She might be the one thing that ends it. And she has to decide who to trust before the sun comes up on all of them.

sleek, modern and dangerous, a high-heat neon slow-burn between two rival vampires, always fade-to-black

From a session

Ren does not touch you. He steers you out of the lounge with a hand that hovers a half-inch from
the small of your back the whole way, close enough to feel the cold coming off him, careful
never to land. You could keep walking like a good little secret. You could also stop dead, so
that his hand finally meets you, and watch what the ice in him does when it does. You stop. For
one second his hand is there, flat and cold and stunned still, and something behind his eyes
cracks like a phone screen. Then he steps back, and tells you, evenly, that you should not do
that again. He does not tell you why. He never tells you why.

From the writer

Nightfall is the one I wrote at three in the morning with the city lights still on. I wanted vampires who own the skyline instead of a castle, a girl who has clawed for everything she has and trusts no one to save her, and two men who want to bring the same empire down for opposite reasons. One would burn it. One keeps it running. Both of them are wrong, and both of them are yours to choose between, or to play again and choose the other. Keep the heat in the tension, the almost, the thing neither of them will say out loud. And do not decide too early which monster you trust.
